We upgraded from instant to filter decades ago, and we're even known to wheel out the percolator during the holidays. But even us coffee snobs at Fab were initially intimidated by Hario’s 2-Cup Syphon Dripper. This is caffeine’s answer to a chemistry set: It uses vapour pressure to force heated water into a chamber containing ground coffee. As the pressure eases, gravity pulls the coffee back down through a filter. Starbucks, schmarbucks – we know where our next Americano is coming from. Even if we have to don a lab coat to prepare it.
When using the syphon, allow approximately 10 g of ground coffee and 120 ml water to produce approximately 100 ml of coffee per cup. This syphon should produce roughly 2 cups of coffee (depending on how big you like your brew!). The burner needs soot free denatured alcohol or ethyl (not included).
